Vermeil Wine Group of Calistoga won a double gold award and class championship for its 2008 Jean Louis Vermeil Cabernet Sauvignon in 10th Annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Uncorked international wine competition. Vermeil’s 2009 XXXIV Proprietary Red Wine was also awarded a gold medal. The competition judged 2,884 wines from 943 wineries around the world. Twenty-one countries participated. Dick Vermeil, a winning Super Bowl coach, said the JLV cab was dedicated to his great grandfathers: Jean Louis Vermeil from Gattiéres, France and Garibaldi Iaccheri owner of the Calistoga Wine Company. Locally, Vermeil Wines are available online at vermeilwines.com, at the Vermeil Wines Tasting Room on Lincoln Avenue in Calistoga.
